Film by David Lynch, 2006. This is my favorite film, not counting Twin Peaks: The Return. I recommend getting the original, non-upscaled version.

Smithy. See: Alan Smithee (Wikipedia). So he is related to the director, Kingsley.

Freddie’s monologue. (Cf. also Letterboxd review above.) I’ve got this damn landlord: Presumably the landlord is Stanton’s character Carl in Twin Peaks. In S3E6, Carl, Bill, Linda and Richard all appear together. In Twin Peaks, Bill is missing; in Inland Empire, Nikki owes on an unpaid bill, which is related to Billy-Devon. “Couple bucks”: borrowing Nikki and Devon for their “roles” as Sue and Billy.

Kingsley’s watches. He wears two pendants, like Lucy in Twin Peaks until the final parts of Twin Peaks after Bob-Cooper is sent by Major Briggs and the Fireman to the sheriff’s station, where she only wears one pendant. Presumably they are pocket watches; for the importance of watches, see also More Things That Happened.
