Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces
Describing Missing Pieces as “deleted scenes” is doing the film a disservice, although I can’t come up with a clearly better description.
It’s true that the film doesn’t have a narrative structure as such, but there is still a great deal of continuity and cohesion between the different scenes, and how they are placed after each other is often meaningful. For example, the connection between the formica table, “it’s color is green,” above the convenience store, to the sketch comedy thing where it is mentioned that “green wood shrinks.” There is also a recurring question of who “the man” is, among several other motifs.
Another recurring motif (which perhaps would have been obscured if it had been scatted across the whole of Fire Walk With Me) is the hotel. Phillip Jeffries stays at Hotel Palm Deluxe, and Laura, Ronette and Teresa work at a motel.
